That's the stuff I was thinking of, not potassium manganese (I think manganese is another element or compound if I'm not mistaken). My friend who worked in the chemlab used to bring that home and we would mix it up with a little glycerol and add a little water to catalyze and *poof*.

yeah. manganese is another element (see http://www.webelements.com for far more data that is often useful on an element, but well maintained as a site)

It is of course quite possible that "Peräsmies" was modelled after or along the lines of "Superhick". It looks like both were kind of underground comics. Peräsmies is, however, much younger (it appeared in the 1980s and 1990s).

Stephen - that site (http://www.webelements.com) IS cool. I never imagined that chemistry could be downright funny... Thanks.

Oscar - I know I cannot say that I am a friend of yours, but I do like anice and licorice AND blood sausage, too, and I am a Hungarian living in the US. I recall my grandfather making some delicious blood based stuff. Of course he washed it down with some wine or if stronger than with some apricot or plum pálinka. I guess I was not introduced to the subtleties of vodkas...

    Cheers!

That is, in general, you live like a civilized human being? ;) Excellent. We'll leave those blood sausage haters to their own misery.

Who needs vodka when you got pálinka?! Sadly, there's only one restaurant in Tampere I know that regularly has pálinka. Mostly pear (körte) which is the one I least like. Plum (szilva) and apricot (barack), nyam! (I've learnt those fruit names only in order to know my pálinkas!)

Commendable. That highlights that I do not possess even that much of your suomen kieli... a shame because both languages are only spoken by a relatively few people.
  10. Damir New Member

Is pálinka something like this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rakija? In Croatia many people in the country makes it at home.
Also, plum in Croatia is "šljiva" which is similar to "szilva".
  11. Steve New Member

Where do you live in Croatia? My father's side of the family came from a town near Dubrovnik.
  12. Damir New Member

    Which town is that?
I live 50km north of Zagreb.
  13. Steve New Member

    Dubrovnik

If you zoom in, you can see Komolac. That map shows Komolac as NE of Dubrovnik, but I had thought Komolac was essentially the harbor for Dubrovnik. I've got a book at home that explains it all.

    o rly?

now what purpose could that possibly serve?

wow, someone actually registered sdfsdfsdf.net (in the email). i wonder if .com was taken..
  16. Damir New Member

Try this map (click on Dubrovnik): http://www.dubrovnik-area.com/map.asp. Its possible that Komolac was harbor for Dubrovnik. At present there is ACI marina.
  17. Steve New Member

Right, that makes sense. The other map didn't show the inlet of water that Komolac sits on.

Scary, that's so close to Lastovo, which we all know is the home of giant flying alien laser spiders.

OK, who let the kid on the internet?
  19. Programmer New Member

I only know one kind of vodka, Smirnoff. What option is that in this poll?
  20. SuperOscar New Member

    A poor one ;)

Try Flagman, if you want your vodka to be Russian.
