Then I guess I'm one of the few who did not like that green and blue thing with teh clunky new start menu. I know which programs I use, and have keyboard shortcuts set up to my frequently used ones ... much faster. (Then again, I only have a 1ghz machine here, so I need all the speed I can get out of Win XP).
Yeah, I didnt like the blue/green thing as well, but there's some really nice visuals styles on DeviantArt.
Or TSS2000.NL or neowin.net One of my favourites is Abyblue: http://www.neowin.net/forum/lofiversion/index.php/t143316.html Correction! The only promised screenshot there seems to be a broken link. Because I'm a nice guy, I hereby provide one myself:
Hey, how many posts does that screenshot count for? That's a recursive post! As for my own personal machine, I like ThemeXP, even though I had to pay for it: http://www.themexp.org/listings.php?type=vs&cat=&view=downloads
I personally enjoy the simplistic/minimalist styles, and for that reason DeviantArt has far better styles than ThemeXP
I used to download from ThemeXP too, but they had a nasty habit of putting setup.exe's to their themes, and far too many times a nasty adware or spyware "component" got installed as well. I prefer transparent .zip (or nowadays mostly .cab) files: that way you know what you get. That's why I use principally TSS2000.nl [address corrected!] now. Haven't got any ad/spyware yet.
Yeah, but who cares about 2K... Its FIVE years old. We should be heading towards Vista, or Longhorn or whatever its called.
It does seem like a lot of people are using XP.. http://www.thecounter.com/stats/2005/September/os.php
...and still common in education and business, as it's stable. http://news.com.com/The slow road to Windows XP/2100-1016_3-5746046.html?tag=nefd.lede Giving users the option with menus shouldn't be hard with most windowing components.
Still, according to the statistic that Steve mentioned, 73% for XP beats 11% for 2000 by a mile. You know, 73% is like... a huge number, and, you know, 11% is like... a small number, you know, its like, you cant... compare them.
You can compare them. The difference is 62. 11 and 73 combined is 84. 73 is over 6x 11. They don't have any common factors. Both numbers are prime. The product of 11 and 73 is 803. 11 goes into 73 6.63636363636363636 times (roughly). But you know what they say. There are lies, damn lies, and statistics.
Indeed. Web browser stats (not even for this site) are a lot less relevant than stats from those using programming editors. There's a switcher component supplied with TBX: http://www.g32.org/tbx/index.html ...besides which, the Default theme has built in support for WinXP styles. You have to specifically override that to force an XP theme on non-XP systems.
Need some new polls? Do we want Vista icons in ConText? How about some Windows 7 icons? I hear they're working on Windows 8..
Well, the whole thread is academic now, since win2000 went out of support for endcustomers a few weeks ago. The numbers will dwindle now very fast (but not go to zero, some very large corporation have extended support contracts)
